Upstream pointed us to this patch:

I've attached updated modules that contain the patch.  Could someone who
can reproduce this bug please check them out to see if they fix the
issue? (please make sure that the linux-backports-modules package is NOT
installed, as it takes precedence over the regular kernel module):

tar -xzf bug286285.tar.gz
sudo cp -b bug286285/* 
/lib/modules/2.6.27-7-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/iwlwifi/
