I'd like to add that I recently noticed that you might need to run

echo phy0assoc > /sys/class/leds/iwl-phy0\:assoc/trigger

even if

cat /sys/class/leds/iwl-phy0\:assoc/trigger

indicates that this is already set (i.e., square brackets around
"phy0assoc").
