I cannot try with the "latest" ubuntu release for at least a few weeks.
I will possibly be able to try sooner on the latest "gutsy" which is the
most recent *working* version of ubuntu.

<vent>
Here is where the time allocated for that went during this last window of
opportunity:
8.10 f*ked the harddrive (boot records) of a test machine consistently and it
took a few days to find a way to safely move my work machine to 8.10. It's a
multi-boot (OS X, Kubuntu, OpenBSD, Debian) that takes several hours to
restore, mostly due to OS X. Additionally, exploring several bugs with 8.10
(thunderbird on 8.10 can't read existing profiles, KDE 4.1 is slow and useless)
prevent using it on a daily basis or even for more than a demo. Since the bug
reporting upstream in Debian is dependent upon e-mail an I am depended upon
Tbird, this is a show-stopper for pursuing this bug.
