** Description changed:

  I used the "update" feature on the the package manager to download
  8.10beta.  Now my laptop will not boot up.  Actually it boots to a black
  screen and I have no X-org screen.  Even if I try to boot into 8.04LTS I
  get the same result.
  
  "To upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04, press Alt+F2 and type in "update-manager
  -d" (without the quotes) into the command box"
  
  This is the first update that I have had trouble with, all the others
  have gone smoothly.

+ UPDATE:  PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED.  i HAVE LAPTOP WORKING FINE.  mADE A GOOD 
INSTALL OF 8.10 ON MY DESKTOP.
