I am now getting this behavior in my up-to-date Ubuntu 8.04.1

Holy crap, I can't even turn it off for a split second. I just spent
10 seconds sitting here tapping the 'enable mouse clicks with
touchpad' option on and off and on with my touchpad. I just ran
updates on my mom's Ubuntu Dell too, it had a new kernel... It did
not exhibit this behavior before applying the kernel, now I rebooted
it..
aaaannndddd it still does not.

The primary difference between our machines is that mine has backports
enabled. The kernel appears to be the same version.

An update recently pushed to backports (within the last 72 hours,
likely) has broken touchpad configuration on Ubuntu 8.04.1 on my
Ubuntu Dell.
