Sorry for any delay, I have just returned from holiday. I have recreated the original problem by inserting a CD burnt using Brasero on Hardy 8.04. When the disc is inserted I get the message that it is unable to mount, however 2 minutes later it will appear mounted on the desktop and all the files are readable.
