Shavak, is your audio card the same as mine? lspci shows mine as: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)
I installed Intrepid 64bit from scratch, the same as you did, but I don't have a digital volume control. It simply doesn't appear in the preferences section. What might be different between our systems? Did you remove pulseaudio?
