Ian's fix worked for me too although it wasn't very clear what he meant
at first.
Basically, when you have this problem, hit F11 twice - this should bring
firefox back to a normal state.
Now double-click twice on the title bar (this should resize firefox - and may
well make it look a little strange due to the nature of this bug).
Now close firefox (Ctrl + Q).
Open Firefox again and double click on the title bar to maximise the window.
Problem solved!
