Sorry for the late reply; I've actually managed this resolution now. I
did so by adding the modeline put out by 'gtf 1280 768 60' into my
xorg.conf. It now looks like this:

Identifier "Configured Monitor"
Modeline "1280x768_60.00" 80.14 1280 1344 1480 1680 768 769 772 795
-HSync +Vsync
Option "DPMS"
EndSection
--
nvidia driver version 177, xrandr doesn't allow 1280x768
