Hi, Further to this, I tried a few experiments. First I tried recompiling bash from source, but it didn't make any difference. Then I noticed that if you ran a new bash shell after logging in (i.e. just running bash), then the problem went away.
So it only happens in the initial bash shell from login. Wierd!
