Hi, I had terribly fluctuating speeds on the SATA drives in my machine, and it sometimes the entire OS would stall and sometimes not. I'm not 100% sure this Ubuntu bug report applies to my situation. I'd just like to state, however, that I just updated my BIOS to the latest version, which the manufacturer claims has 'updated super i/o code'. Now all SATA disks perform as expected.
