** Description changed: I have an Nvidia 7600GT card, with the nvidia-glx-new drivers, using compiz. I've noticed that window effects, the most trivial of which is dragging the window around with by the title bar, causes "tearing" artifacts like you'd see if you needed to start double-buffering. Tearing also happens in videos, or other apps that update a lot (screen savers etc). Installing compizconfig-settings-manager, going into the "General" screen, and enabling "sync to vblank" fixes this. + + [lspci] + 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation 82P965/G965 Memory Controller Hub [8086:29a0] (rev 02) + Subsystem: Giga-byte Technology Device [1458:5000] + 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation G70 [GeForce 7600 GT] [10de:0391] (rev a1) + Subsystem: eVga.com.
