** Description changed:

This bug exists in Ubuntu 8.04, but I think it was also on 7.x.
On amd64 SMP (dualcore), with various nvidia cards (now GT8600, previously
afair FX 5xxx).
  Using nvidia binary drivers.

  1. star desktop as usuall (VT7)
  2. go to VT8
  3. play in example an 3d opengl game in VT8
  4. go back to VT7
  5. repeat from step 2

After around 3-8 repeats my box ALWAYS have ill effects:
  1. very often - one of x sessions crashes when changing screen
  2. sometimes - one of session crashes a bit later (in up to 1 minute), or one
of programs crashes with some X related problem afair (rare)
  3. often - box hangs, displaying a black screen, sometimes also the monitor
(LCD) turnsoff/suspends, USB keyboard is not working; All programs seem to be
running usually (music plays etc etc).
USB keyboard does not work (even numlock) - but - sysrq-b works
  4. previously (around 7.x ubuntu, and on older gfx) the most common effect
was that opengl textures where messed up after switching VT's

  In addition,
  *** ALWAYS ***
when you change VT's (i.e. 7 <-> 8) while an opengl game is starting (i.e.
setting up fullscreen), then it ALWAYS crashes.
