** Description changed: Ubuntu 8.10, Dell XPS 420 with PEG NVIDIA 8800GTX loads perfect with default config but only with default config. Enabling the 177 recommended driver makes the GUI crash at reboot mentioning nvidia device (o,o,o) not found. Tried to edit the xorg.conf in single user text mode only, didn't work, tried to install .sh driver from NVIDIA don't work either. When I look at the xorg.conf file it only lists generic info like "configured device" or "configured monitor" etc. nvidia settings is there but empty. I tried everything I found searching about x server, nvidia, xorg.conf, nothing seems to make that graphics card work as it was in 8.04. + + [lspci] + 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation G80 [GeForce 8800 GTX] [10de:0191] (rev a2) + Subsystem: nVidia Corporation Device [10de:039c]
