Hi. I'm having this same bug. I recently did a dist-upgrade from Hardy 8.04. I have to push a button to resume booting. It seems to be a ACPI bug because booting freezes on this line (taken from my dmesg.log):
[ 4.849974] ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LUS2] enabled at IRQ 22 Booting with "acpi=off" or "acpi=force pci=noacpi" have effects. The booting is normal. $ uname -a Linux eko 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux I'm attaching my dmesg and lspci outputs. What else I can do to provide more information?
