I can confirm that the bug is still present in Intrepid with kernel 2.6.27-9-generic on my AMD 780G board with an SB700 southbridge (A Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H)... but...
After upgrading to kernel 2.6.27-11-generic from Intreprid Proposed it seems to have solved the problem. Refer to Leann Ogasawaras message from 2008-12-24 and the two previous messages for further info.
