I'm also seeing some or all of the same things as the original poster. I'm running Intrepid on a new laptop (Fujitsu Lifebook A1110, Intel Mobile Graphics 4 series chipset (not sure if this is the same chipset as "GM945" or however it's referenced.)
I noticed this fairly right away after getting the laptop last month and putting 8.10 (64 bit) on it. Applications that depend heavily on 3D function poorly, or are not usable because of excessive bleed through and flickering on the display. For instance, googleearth and celestia are practically unusable. Another application that I use frequently is stellarium (i keep up with the SVN development) and although the appication is somewhat usable, much of the text is garbled on the display, which is not the case with the same code on my desktop, which uses the nvidia driver. Also I notice some problems with compiz and KDE4 that might be display related - it's caused me to revert back to gnome. If you see the attachment, check out the lower part of the screen. Much of the text that is supposed to be there (status related stuff, FPS, that sort of thing, is not readable. I inquired on the stellarium public mailing list and they suggested the problem may be related to the display driver. Other artifacts come through, for instance, when running mplayer, OK unless I add -vo ogl2 to the command line which is supposed to "render" ? the movie using opengl2. The movie is always getting bleedthrough from the controlling terminal, and this goes away if I omit that parameter. There is also tremendous bleedthrough when running stellarium - it settles down, but one can see the desktop flickering, alternating between it and the stellarium startup screen while stellarium starts up. If there are tweaks I'd appreciate some hints. This is an updated new Intrepid install with an unmodified xorg.conf - i.e., whatever was automagically configured during the initial install process. ** Attachment added: "stellarium-000.png" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/21348433/stellarium-000.png -- [i945GM] flicker boxes, rendering artifacts on gl applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317149 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
