Same here - if I disable compiz then celestia seems to run OK without
flickering, as does stellarium, although I still get text font
corruption.

Sadly, googleearth starts up, no flicker, I can see the globe in back
of googleearth's start up window, but then it crashes hard. I reset
the display settings to custom / compiz and googleearth still
segfaults, and the other opejngl apps I have start to exhibit
flickering again.

That's not happening to me (glxgears runs between 600-700 fps). On the
other hand, booting up a fresh Fedora 10 from CD, I get 1000-1100 fps
from glxgears.

System sports an intel core2 duo with 3gb of RAM.
