If you get the "ati" driver to work again (instead of using "vesa") you
will probably encounter the AGPMode problem again, so file the new bug
when you get so far.

This is probably too much for your monitor. Can you please provide the
specifications for your monitor (horizontal sync and vertical refresh frequency
ranges)? The monitor itself tells the driver that 1600x1200 is ok, but maybe it
is a lie and this monitor needs an "edid quirk". The log also says
"First detailed timing not preferred mode in violation of standard!"
which I feel reduces the credibility of the edid info.
