I've noticed that Emacs seemingly uses a different font size based on
the screen resolution reported by the X server.

If I add the following to /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

    Section "Monitor"
    ...
            DisplaySize     somethingsaneX somethingsaneY
    ...
    EndSection

where 'somethingsaneX' and 'somethingsaneY' are sane values for the
physical size of the monitor, Emacs displays fonts very well.

If I remove these values or set them to something completely out of
range, then Emacs will display ugly-looking fonts again (waaay too
small).
