  Long summary:

After a fresh install of intrepid, a logitech trackball usb mouse
doesn't work properly. First it stopped working in a similar fashion
  like #306024 & #300106.

Then, I unplugged the G9 mouse and the trackball doesn't freeze anymore,
but the mouse behaves erratically. Some examples of bad behaviour:

   - Mouse movement events seem to be lost. (the pointer "jitters")
   - When I click the left button, the pointer moves far away.
   - When I try to move the pointer slowly, the pointer jumps.

The mouse is directly connected. I cannot see any strange message in system
logs.

I tried the noacpi workaround without any success. The mouse works OK in
  Vista.

Please let me know if you need any additional information.
