Hello, I had the same problem on my Acer Aspire 3000 with Sis 760 on Ubuntu Intrepid 32bit. Small flickering horizontal lines (about 3 cm long) appearing at the left edge of the monitor and certian colors causing "snow" or "fuzzy" look about them. In previous distributions I don't have this problem.
After some configuration tests using sisctrl (http://www.winischhofer.eu/linuxsispart4.shtml#download), these steps solved my problem: 1. add this line in /etc/modules sisfb 2. edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and try these settings ==== Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Driver "sis" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" Option "UseFBDev" "true" Option "EnableSisCtrl" "yes" Option "ForceCRT1Type" "LCD" Option "ForceCRT2Type" "NONE" Option "CRT1Gamma" "on" Option "CRT2Gamma" "on" Option "Brightness" "0.000 0.000 0.000" Option "Contrast" "0.000 0.000 0.000" Option "CRT1Saturation" "0" Option "XvOnCRT2" "yes" Option "XvDefaultContrast" "2" Option "XvDefaultBrightness" "10" Option "XvDefaultHue" "0" Option "XvDefaultSaturation" "0" Option "XvDefaultDisableGfxLR" "no" Option "XvGamma" "off" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Configured Monitor" Gamma 1.000 1.000 1.000 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Monitor "Configured Monitor" Device "Configured Video Device" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 1 Modes "1280x800" "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "720x400" "640x480" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 4 Modes "1280x800" "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "720x400" "640x480" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 8 Modes "1280x800" "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "720x400" "640x480" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 15 Modes "1280x800" "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "720x400" "640x480" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1280x800" "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "720x400" "640x480" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1280x800" "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "720x400" "640x480" EndSubSection EndSection ==== Restart your X I hope it help you. ================================================================= Linux bombadil 2.6.27-3-generic #1 SMP Wed Sep 10 16:02:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux Description: Ubuntu 8.10 Release: 8.10 00:00.0 Host bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 760/M760 Host (rev 03) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SG86C202 00:02.0 ISA bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS963 [MuTIOL Media IO] (rev 25) 00:02.1 SMBus: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS961/2 SMBus Controller 00:02.5 IDE interface: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 5513 [IDE] 00:02.6 Modem: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] AC'97 Modem Controller (rev a0) 00:02.7 Multimedia audio controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] AC'97 Sound Controller (rev a0) 00:03.0 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.1 Controller (rev 0f) 00:03.1 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.1 Controller (rev 0f) 00:03.2 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 2.0 Controller 00:04.0 Ethernet controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS900 PCI Fast Ethernet (rev 91) 00:06.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1510 PC card Cardbus Controller 00:0b.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02) 00:18.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] HyperTransport Technology Configuration 00:18.1 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Address Map 00:18.2 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] DRAM Controller 00:18.3 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Miscellaneous Control 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP or 662/761Gx PCIE VGA Display Adapter -- Intrepid - SIS video snow/fuzz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/264769 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
