Hi again,

I made a test on Jaunty and there was no kernel panic. The touchpad worked fine 
and no error was reported in the Xorg.0.log file.
The only two problems I encountered are on the Atheros madwifi driver (see 
attached dmesg) and the Proxy authentication settings in Network preference. 
Though I set the proxy user and password, I could not install/update anything 
from Synaptic, due to http 407 errors.

Therefore, I could only test the Gnome environment, while it would be
more convenient to check if the bug may be related to KDE 4.

In any case, is there any work around for Intrepid? This issue is very
annoying: I always have to hard restart and select the recovery entry in
the grub menu.
