This happens to me as well. It started after I ran several recommended
updates this Monday; most notably xorg and xserver-xorg from version
1:7.1.1ubuntu6 to 1:7.1.1ubuntu6.2. It happened during the upgrade in
question, and since then, it has happened once shortly after each time I
resume from hibernation. Logging out and in again solves the problem
temporarily, until the next day when I resume. It seems to happen about
5 minutes after I resume (has happened three times so far). If I leave
it running, without re-logging in, the screen shifts further to the
left. I'm guessing it's about 50 pixels at a time. The mouse pointer is
still using the "real" screen coordinates, so I have to click 50 or so
pixels to the right of where I want.

I'm running the nVidia 8776 driver from the official repos, on a
GeForce4 4200 Go graphics card in a Dell Latitude D800 with a widescreen
1680x1050 monitor. Taking a screenshot does not show the problem (the
screenshots look normal), so I can't show exactly how it looks,
unfortunately.
