Hi An additional thought - ubuntu upgrade notes recommend I cannot upgrade from 7.10 to 8.10 without going through 8.04 but I cannot go through 8.04 because it would not work. Any suggestions Dave Aitken> Date: Sat, 31 Jan 2009 13:47:05 +0000> From: [email protected]> To: [email protected]> Subject: [Bug 249465] Re: Partions not correct in 8.04 install with 2 Ide and 1 Sata hdd> > Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make> Ubuntu better. On the other m/c with 2 Ide hdd's and a Sata hdd on a pci card (with 7.10 installed on the Sata hdd and Windows on first Ide hdd)the upgrade failed to complete so I downloaded an 8.04 new installation CD and tried a new clean install. In partion manager, custom partion, it put the Sata hdd first (7.10 install had put it 3rd).Installation seemed to run OK but Windows properties were not found.Following installation neither Ubuntu nor Windows would run following the grub menu.I then edited the grub menu to relocate Ubuntu from hd0 to hd2 and windows from hd1 to hd0 and took out some maping and the system now starts. However update manager now says I have over 200 updates of over 200Mb, sounds like a screwed up system - I notice also that my usb modem is behaving erratically.> I have repeated everything on my other pc and all is fine there so my cd's should be ok. _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live Messenger just got better .Video display pics, contact updates & more. http://www.download.live.com/messenger
