Here's a guess: 1360x768 is the native resolution of HDTVs, which probably don't do EDID, and they will just work if xorg uses that by default?
It's a shame that higher resolutions are not available, otherwise you could just manually select the correct one in monitor configuration tools of Gnome or KDE.
