I don't know how to get root authority to cd to the directories you
want. I have tried the sudo command without success.
I am the installer so I would think I would have authority with my
password, but it's not working.
Thanks, Michael,
Larry

Right after 8.10 became available, I attempted to upgrade from 8.04, It
crashed my PC, I finally managed to reinstall 8.04. Today I accepted the
Ubuntu online offer to upgrade to 8.10 that appeared automatically.on
8.04.
thinking that surely Ubuntu had caught all the glitches by now, I accepted
the upgrade. After Ubuntu 8.04 processed the entire upgrade and the reboot was
the only thing remaining to complete the process, it failed and I received the
following error messages:
Gave up waiting for root device.
Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
Check root delay= (Did system wait long enough?)
Check root= (Did system wait for the right device?)
Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; 1s /dev)
