This past Thursday was the first presentation I needed to give from my laptop since upgrading to Edgy. I played with my X settings a LOT in advance to make sure everything would go smoothly. I never got xinerama working correctly, so I opted to go for just having two screens instead of a xinerama spanned-desktop. It seemed to be working fine until I was in the conference room loading OpenOffice on the external screen (which I apparently hadn't tried before) when .. bam. X dies completely. Presentation disaster mode ensues.
After briefly considering seppuku and/or a permanent switch to Mac, I opted to give Ubuntu one more chance. A killed my root partition and reinstalled a-fresh from a newly pressed Ubuntu Edgy CD on the off- chance that the problem was related to a dist-upgrade from 2006.04. It was. A clean install of Edgy has xinerama working fine. Also my fonts look way better and overall system responsiveness is up. Wish I hadn't had to learn that the hard way ... -- xinerama broken on upgrade dapper to edgy beta https://launchpad.net/bugs/63050 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
