Somehow the driver code states this value is coming from the eeprom. One thing 
to try would be to go to the bios, enable wol save, and then disable it again. 
Just to make sure the bios only shadows the setting.
If that does not help. and the ethtool query still shows "g", you could dump 
the eeprom data with "ethtool -e".
