sorry for misunderstanding.. I actually tried it the way you suggest:

1. restart computer and select the Kubuntu partition
2. login as default user and wait for KDE complete startup
3. avoid touching the touchpad until switch to a different VT (by pressing 
Ctrl+Alt+F1)
4. touch the touchpad

well, nothing happened... I could even get back to the KDE session and
this time the kernel panic did not occur! All worked fine, including
input devices!

So, it seems it happens only if I try to use the touchpad right after
logging into KDE. I'm getting a bit confused...
