Hi Jan, I know the application did not come from any official Ubuntu repository, and I certainly would have reported the issue to the Google Earth support only, if I had experienced nothing more than a crash of Google Earth itself.
Unfortunately, the final consequence was a X server failure, which ultimately resulted in a system wide crash (system unresponsive and hard restart needed), that sounds like a far more critical issue. Actually, I have seen lots of errors in the Xorg.0.log.old and thought they might imply a bug in Xorg or in the intel driver, which was someway "triggered" by GE: that is why I reported the issue here, as well. Do you think all those errors come only from a bug in Google Earth?
