My last comment was way to presumptuous. The ext3 kernel loops are still present. Fully updated system and up to the 180.35 nvidia driver. I had first tried the 180.29 driver installed by hand and this did stop the kernel loops until the next round of xserver updates. I'm not sure why the system cannot boot when adding memory_corruption_check_size=1024k to the kernel line in the boot menu.lst
