I'm not familiar enough with apport and how it gathers information for
this submission. The OpenGL crash might have been my own doing. When
Kwin is hung, there are a few things I can do, for instance, I can do
Alt-F2 and try to run applications. This is mostly useless since nothing
launches, but through the course of things I have tried to do `kwin
--replace` and will briefly get some responsiveness (the menu will pop
up so that I can try to launch other things). What I am curious about is
whether or not the crash and attached stacktraces/core dumps relate to
the problem. From the xsession-errors file, I get this every time I try
to run something -

kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/bin/kbuildsycoca4

<unknown program name>(4037)/ KStartupInfo::createNewStartupId: creating:
"wesw-desktop;1236777003;820192;4037_TIME0" : "unnamed app"
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/bin/konsole
kwin: X Error (error: <unknown>[DAMAGE+0], request: XDamageDestroy[DAMAGE+2],
resource: 0x1200182)
QThread(ptr=0x1867e60) RemoveTimeout: killing timer 13
<unknown program name>(4350)/: Communication problem with "konsole" , it
probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Did not receive a
reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply,
the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired,
or the network connection was broken." "

The only things I found on the 'net with information about that error
message is to make sure DBus is running (which it is). The other thing
that makes me wonder is that I don't fully understand this bug -

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/326344

In February, when I first had this problem, installing the deb from
https://launchpad.net/~anders-kaseorg/+archive/ppa/+files/xserver-xorg-
core_1.5.99.902-0ubuntu5~andersk1_amd64.deb fixed it. Everything was
fine until adept grabbed a newer xserver-xorg-core. I could roll back to
the working xserver-xorg, but it seems that I can consistently reproduce
the freeze so I wouldn't mind testing new versions of xserver-xorg or
other versions of the nvidia driver.
