Choosing Purple IRC Handler does nothing. However i only have Pidion and IRSSI installed. I think it should use something by giving the the user a choice dialog that you get when you try to open a file. It uses package names to open with. I dont think user should have to look for a package to open it with from file system but rather from the same UI I will try to grab a screenshot of what i think it should be like. This however defaults to $HOME dir. As for it opening tabs or slowing browser down does not happen on 3.0 nor 3.1 here.
