Some updates: the state is now not explicitly disabled, but someway inbetween. Specifically, NetworkManager does not show the state as disabled, but the wireless led is inactive and no wireless networks are detected. Usually simply to toggle the Enable Wireless option in the NetworkManager context menu solved the problem (i.e. wireless get's activated), though some times the kernel panics on that operation.
