Although this might be a user config issue, it is not obvious for the 
unexperienced user. Isn't that the main target of ubuntu, to work simply out of 
the box ?
 
By the way it works simply out of the box for Windows XP and Vista.
Unexperienced  users who want to switch from windows to ubuntu might get stuck 
with this issue and switch back immediately to windows.

and linux comfirms his image as geek os ...

ps I have an IT background, although not a linux expert, but a unix user at 
least for 10 years.
It took me a while to fix this.
