I changed the status back to new. I did not encounter the issue with the open source ati and intel drivers, but anyhow I suspect it is some timing issue. Possibly related to issues such as bug #148381 could be the fact that when opening any context menu, the pointer is localed slightly to the right of the top-left corner of the menu (see attached screenshot), causing the first item already to be selected (and if fact, if one holds the right button for two or so seconds and then releases it, the first item is executed along with the menu closing).
