Afaik the old patch was integrated in Intrepid. The problem is a possible crash but I haven't had any big issues with Intrepid Vlc. So if I have to choose between possible Vlc crashes or a non integrated video output I would choose the first one. At least if it behaves the same like in Intrepid.
