Just a status update to help people that may be troubleshooting this
bug. I got so frustrated with this bug that I nuked the filesystem and
started fresh. I installed Ubuntu (Ibex), but this time installed the
server version. I also chose not to use any RAID partitions. So far,
so good. Everything has been pretty stable for a season; no ethernet
lock-ups!

So, was it the kernel? Perhaps the different I/O scheduler that the
server edition uses is better able to handle high speed multitasking?
Perhaps it was the RAID driver? Maybe it was the RAID driver as part of
the OS partition (boot, root, etc.)? Maybe it was the constant upgrades
all the way from Breezy to Ibex that left some configuration file in a
uniquely crappy state?

Anyhow, this isn't the way I wanted to solve it, but it does prove the
hardware is fine. I am still shocked that after over 2 years of
complaining and documenting this bug, no one else has made any progress
on this either. I can only imagine this MUST not be common place?
