Oh I see. My mistake for not reading that. My solution before was to run
a cronjob to start ufw on reboot, however, I did expect it to start
restarting itself automatically after I had installed it...

This is the output when I ran '/usr/share/ufw/ufw-init start' in Debian:

FATAL: Module nf_conntrack_ftp not found.
FATAL: Module nf_nat_ftp not found.
FATAL: Module nf_conntrack_irc not found.
FATAL: Module nf_nat_irc not found.

Not sure if that's expected behavior.
