Hello, thanks for the response. I believe this was the auto-upgrade using Update Manager that was failing. The initial installation went fine. Update Manager seems to work fine now too.
The only other problem I'm having has to do with the video mode and I think I just need to find a driver for the mobile radeon built into the laptop.
