thunderbird just started crashing for me as well. it only happens after downloading a new email from a pop3 server. what happens is that thunderbird will completely freeze. there is no error or anything but the program stops responding and i have to force the application to close. i've disabled all addons that i had (lightning & provider) but the problem persists. in one instance, the entire desktop froze and i had to log into another session through putty and reboot from the terminal.
these locks only happen after the email has downloaded. most of the time, i'm able to restart thunderbird and the new email is in my inbox and is accessible.
