Today's update for Jaunty Beta solved the problem (nearly) on my laptop
finally. It is the first time I have proper sound on my machine with
Ubuntu! That's really a joy...

Congratulations  Daniel T Chen for improving Alsa and pulseaudio this
way. Well done. God bless you!

Anyhow I still could get the sound system to crash (means crackling
sound) when I played an MP3 for some minutes with Totem and browsed on
the Internet at the same time. The last time I was scrolling down this
page when the sound suddenly broke. But that's no comparison to how it
was before the newly update.

After the crash I do a reboot in order to get sound back again. I don't
know yet how to do it else...but after a while I will learn that.
