And just like with the original reporter, things work again. I rebooted
the laptop and the router serveral times, and now DHCP works again,
without changing any seetings are installing any updates.

This is especially strange as I could connect via DHCP with an old
Laptop running Intrepid the whole time.

The output from running dhclient looks as follows, the strange wmaster0
message remains:
