Is this symptom from a fresh install of jaunty or from a distribution
upgrade? Is this symptom reproducible if you do the following?
killall pulseaudio && pulseaudio -vvv
(leave pulseaudio running in the foreground; you can stop it with ctrl+z
or kill it with ctrl+c after you finish debugging)
