Following yours thoughts I checked my xorg.conf. I have no idea why, but
is was modified:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection
Just this. I ran nvidia-xconfig and it made the attached xorg.conf. Now when I
start KDE it fades to white, then to black :D
Still the same problem.
