This is the section we should be looking at. If it's a UK keyboard, I would guess that the "us" should be changed to the correct setting for UK keyboards. This sort of setting is usually set manually during installation. You may have missed that during installation, anything is possible. Without going into too much research myself, I would recommend looking into changing those settings, starting with a google search for the xorg.conf options, or just looking to `man xorg.conf`. Let me know if changing some of those settings helps.
