After downloading and installing the debian from intrepid, I tried upgrading to the latest libbrasero-media0 and brasero packages through the update-manager. This worked fine, and it works. So, as a workaround to this bug, install the intrepid version and upgrade it to the jaunty version.
This also probably means this bug is specific to 'fresh' installations only, and won't happen during upgrades.
