these kind of things won't be fixed in thunderbird 2 anymore. hopefully
soon tbird 3 will arrive which should a bunch of issues. You can already
get a preview by following the daily packages for thunderbird-3.0 we
provide in the ubuntu-mozilla-daily archive: https://edge.launchpad.net
