I have read about people installing the intrepid driver with various levels of success. I have seen it in a few bug reports, but I don't remember where. I think people get it from Reinhard Tartler's PPA: https://launchpad.net/~siretart/+archive/ppa . I think that adding Option "DRI" "true" to the "Device" section in your xorg.conf should enable DRI. You can check this by looking in Xorg.0.log if it is enabled or not.
